FORT BELVOIR LAPTOP STOLEN FROM EMPLOYEE

The US Army is reporting a laptop was stolen from an employee of the Fort Belvoir Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command (FMWRC) in Virginia.  The theft occurred in November of 2009 and the laptop reportedly contained the personal information of over 42,000 customers of the FMWRC.  According to the US Army, the FMWR became aware of the data theft on December 1, 2009 and data breach notification letters will be going out to those affected by the data loss.

The Family and MWR Command operates many facilities on Fort Belvoir, including childcare centers, bowling centers, restaurants, outdoor recreation facilities, and golf courses. Soldiers, family members, Department of Defense employees and other authorized MWR patrons who used an MWR facility on Fort Belvoir since 2005 may be included in the data on the laptop.
